In Delta State , Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan , yesterday emerged winner over Ogboru the great again, in the governorship election held in the state. It was a count down between Uduaghan and Ogboru on who to be the state governor.
Uduaghan, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate scored a total of 525,793 votes to beat his closest rival, Chief Great Ogboru of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) who polled 433, 834 votes.
His emergence as winner came after the results of four local government areas whose results were not earlier released Wednesday, were announced yesterday morning by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Gabriel Adah. The four local government areas announced, finally gave the PDP a total of 13 local government areas as against the DPP’s 12 local government areas won during the election.
Announcing the results yesterday morning, Dr. Adah said Dr. Uduaghan won a landslide victory.
It is pertinent to note that the two political parties shared equally the votes of the four local government areas as each of them got two local government areas each. The results are for the DPP, : Ndokwa East 7,:315, Ndokwa West 16,428, Sapele 15571 and Warri South West 10, 852 while the PDP scored Ndokwa East 13,068, Ndokwa West10,255, Sapele 15,072 and Warri South West 59, 150.
With his re-election, Uduaghan, appears to have silenced Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark who had been critical about his administration and has determined to see him out of power. Meanwhile, the DPP has vowed to contest the results in the court of law, alleging serious manipulations.
Reacting to the results yesterday , the state deputy governor-elect, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN) urged opposition parties in the state to accept the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the April 26 governorship polls and join hands with the winner, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to develop the state.
Utuama, who was running mate to Uduaghan , speaking with reporters after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Uduaghan winner of the polls said, “We have passed the bridge of politics to the bridge of governance. Let us come together and join His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan in order to nurture good governance.“Deltans should continue to rejoice and continue to support this government. We will do more for them..”
Speaking on the PDP victory, Utuama said, “First I dedicate the victory to God, I dedicate the victory to PDP. I dedicate the victory to all Deltans. Those unknown Deltans who voted for us, I dedicate the victory to them. God has used them to give us the victory, I dedicate the victory to them.”
