ASUU STRIKE THREATENS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Thursday, warned that nothing would stop the union on embarking on strike, if the Federal Government failed to honour its part of the agreement reached in 2009.

According to chairman of the University of Ibadan chapter of the union,  Dr Ademola Aremu, while addressing newsmen noted that the education sector would suffer should the Federal Government fail to fulfil its part of the deal.
While calling on  members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers and other well meaning Nigerians to prevail on the Federal Government to fully honour the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement before the education system was thrown into avoidable crisis, he remarked that it was unfortunate that government was still  playing hide and seek over the implementation of the 2009 agreement in spite of the fact that the agreement was reached after over two years of negotiation.
According to him government is still implementing ”Table Two of the FG/ASUU agreement'' which ought not to have lasted for more than three months after signing the agreement.
“We do not want to heat up the polity but let it be known that nothing may stop the strike if the Federal Government fails to honour its part of the agreement. The agreement is due for review next July while the old one is yet to the fully implemented.
“We want to use this opportunity to call on our royal fathers, the National Assembly and all well meaning Nigerians to prevail on government to fully honour  the agreement,” he said.
